Connecting Wirelessly to the Library's Old Printers: Home

Some Things to Keep in Mind

  • After setup, you must be logged in to Suffolk’s wireless network in order to print. To log in, first ensure that your wireless is on, that you are connected to the ‘Suffolk Student’ wireless network, and that you have logged in with your wireless ID and password via a web browser.
  • If you do not know your wireless ID, please call the helpdesk at 617-557-2000. Library staff are unable to log you in.
  • Sawyer Library recommends setting up at least two library printers in order to have a backup printer for times of high use.
  • Sawyer Library Circulation Staff cannot modify or alter the settings on your personal laptop. If you need assistance, please contact Suffolk IT at 617-557-2000.

Printing at the Sawyer Library

The laptops loaned out by the Sawyer Library, as well as those of Suffolk University students may print from the Sawyer Library's six printers through a wireless connection. In order to print to these printers, it is necessary to add them to the list of printers on your computer.  This guide provides instructions to complete this task for each of the primary operating systems used by the Suffolk University Community.

This is a two part process:

  1. Go to the second tab of the guide, and click on the link that matches your operating system to download the print driver and follow the steps below to install it on your laptop.
Note: Not all operating systems require that you perform this task; for example Windows7 and Mac OS X 10.6 come with the driver preinstalled.
    • Download the version of the driver that matches your laptop's operating system.
    • Extract the files (for more information on this topic, visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/129605)
    • Follow the instructions and Run the program.
  2. Select the tab that matches the operating system of your own laptop and follow the instructions to connect your laptop to the library printers.

All I'm getting is Gibberish?!

Selecting an incorrect printer driver can lead your laptop to spit out tons of gibberish instead of your documents.
To make sure that everything is in working order, try to print a test page (I recommend a text or word document with the sole word 'test' typed onto it).
If you get your document, then all should be well; if you get gibberish, try selecting a different print driver.
If problems persist, refer to the box below this one, entitled Need In-Person Help?.

Need In-Person Help?

Drop-in sessions for assistance in connecting your computer wirelessly to the Sawyer Library's printers will be available at the beginning and end of each semester.  Check back for drop in sessions later in the term.

If you are unable to attend any of these drop-in sessions, feel free to schedule an appointment for one-on-one assistance with Amy Dumouchel, Electronic Resources Librarian, by emailing adumouchel@suffolk.edu. For immediate assistance, please contact the University ITS "Help Desk" at 617-557-2000.
