eBrary recommends using Bluefire to get files from Adobe Digital Editions onto iPads.
The App is free.

Using the Bluefire app to open Adobe Digital Editions files on your iPad
Download the
Bluefire App
.
During the installation, you will be prompted to sign in. Use the same Adobe ID and password that you used for your Adobe Digital Editions account.
Connect your iPad or iPhone to your computer.
On your computer, open iTunes.
Select your iPhone or iPad from the device menu along the left of the window.
From the Apps tab along the top, choose the Bluefire Reader.
To the right of the Apps list, the Bluefire Documents window will open.
Open your computer's documents inside libraries folder.
Select the folder entitled
My Digital Editions
Find the file you would like to transfer
Drag the file and drop it into Bluefire Documents Folder inside of iTunes
Allow your iPad to sync.
