Mathematics Resource Guide: Relevant Mathematics Associations/Societies

The American Mathematical Society is dedicated to advancing research and connecting the diverse global mathematical community through publications, meetings and conferences, MathSciNet, professional services, advocacy, and awareness programs.

The mission of the MAA is to advance the understanding of mathematics and its impact on our world.
The Mathematical Association of America is the world’s largest community of mathematicians, students, and enthusiasts. We further the understanding of our world through mathematics because mathematics drives society and shapes our lives.

The National Association of Mathematicians (NAM) is a non-profit professional organization in the mathematical sciences with membership open to all persons interested in the mission and purpose of NAM which are: Promoting excellence in the mathematical sciences and promoting the mathematical development of all underrepresented minorities.

Kappa Mu Epsilon is a specialized honor society in Mathematics. KME was founded in 1931 to promote the interest of mathematics among undergraduate students. Its chapters are located in colleges and universities of recognized standing which offer a strong mathematics major. The chapters' members are selected from students of mathematics and other closely related fields who have maintained standards of scholarship, have professional merit, and have attained academic distinction.

Pi Mu Epsilon is dedicated to the promotion of mathematics and recognition of students who successfully pursue mathematical understanding. To promote mathematics, the National Pi Mu Epsilon Council sponsors an annual conference in conjunction with the American Mathematical Society (AMS) at the Joint Mathematics Meetings. Traditionally, this conference occurs in the first or second week of January. Undergraduate members of Pi Mu Epsilon are encouraged to give a 15 minute presentation or present a poster on a mathematical topic of interest. The content of the presentation does not have to include original research. Although some presentations may impart new results, the majority often show results of exploration of a topic beyond what is traditionally covered in an undergraduate class. Feel free to contact a member of the PME Council to verify a topic is suitable for presentation.
