Accessing Online Resources
To access the Mildred F. Sawyer Library databases, enter the Library Home Page, and select Find Databases. Choose a database. If you are off-campus, you will be asked to enter your login information before proceeding to the database.
To locate a specific online journal, type the journal title in the eJournals tab.

- GreenFILEIndexes scholarly, governmental and general titles covering environmental topics.
- NatureNature is a weekly international journal publishing peer-reviewed research in all fields of science and technology. The Sawyer Library access starts in 1997. Use Firefox rather than Internet Explorer to view this database.
- Science (AAAS) MagazineScience is one of the world's leading publications for scientific news, commentary, and research. The website provides searchable full-text journal news stories, research reports, and commentary articles from 1997 to the present. Includes multimedia (podcasts, video, slides) and career information. Searchable access to earlier editions of Science are available through databases, such as JSTOR, Academic OneFile, and Academic Search Complete.
- ScienceDirectScience Direct includes over 2,000 academic journals with full-text, most back to 1995. It provides high-quality, peer-reviewed journal literature in all areas of the sciences.
- BioOneBioOne is a non-profit venture which provides a wide selection of full-text, peer-reviewed journals published by the American Institute of Biological Sciences and other closely related organizations. Coverage is from 1998 to the present.
- Wiley InterscienceContains over 1,000 searchable journals, reference works, manuals, and more. Offers 41 earth and environmental science journals, plus hundreds of biology, chemistry, and medical journals. Includes nearly 70 Blackwell journals.
- SpringerLinkThe SpringerLink Online Journal collection includes more than 1,200 peer-reviewed journals, comprising more than 600,000 individual documents. Most titles include complete back issues to 1996. Provides access to over 140 journals dealing with the environment.
- JSTORContains back runs of over 300 scholarly publications in various academic fields. Search by category or within a particular journal. Includes ecology journals, science journals, geography journals, regional studies journals, population and statistical journals.
- Science (Gale In Context) This link opens in a new windowScience in Context is a database which provides both reference and periodical material covering all areas of the sciences. Includes over 50 reference titles plus 270 full-text science magazines, ranging from those intended for general reading to scholarly academic journals.
- MEDLINE (from 1950's)Provides information on medicine, health care systems, nursing, and more. Created by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), Medline searches abstracts from 4,600 biomedical journals. Includes some linked full-text.
- ACS PublicationsProvides access to the 36 major journals of the American Chemical Society including the Journal of the American Chemical Society, Biochemistry and Environmental Science & Technology. Current coverage includes backfile to 1996.
- AccessScienceOnline reference materials taken from the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology and research updates from the McGraw-Hill Yearbooks. Includes graphs, illustrations, news, and student study guides.
- Academic Search Complete This link opens in a new windowA full-text database with more than 5,500 full-text periodicals, including more than 4,600 peer-reviewed journals. Covers all academic subjects.
- Gale eBooks This link opens in a new windowThis database includes searchable encyclopedias, such as Environmental Encyclopedia, 3rd ed., 2003, and Encyclopedia of Public Health, 2002, and more.
- HeinOnlineProvides full-texts (PDF) of recent and older legal periodicals, English Reports, Code of Federal Regulations, Federal Register, U.S. Treaties, Statutes at Large, Congressional Record, U.S. Attorney General opinions, U.S. Supreme Court cases, and state session laws, and more. Choose the U.S. Federal Legislative History option (right column), then select "List of Public Laws," to locate federal environmental legislative histories, such as Clean Air Act, Coastal Zone Management Amendments, and the Water Resources Development Act.
